Hydee Feldstein Soto

Hydee spent decades overcoming institutional hurdles to become one of the country’s most respected attorneys, known for her no-nonsense and can-do approach to finding innovative solutions to difficult problems. As a Latina in the male-dominated legal arena, Hydee broke down barriers in her own career, and mentored other women and people of color to help them succeed. Through determination and exceptional command of the law, she eventually became a partner in two of the most prestigious law firms in the country.

Elected in 2022, Hydee is the first woman and first Latina to serve as City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles. Hydee is working to bring real positive change on the issues that most affect our daily lives – the safety of our streets and neighborhoods, homelessness, protecting the vulnerable, and more.

As LA’s City Attorney, Hydee was prepared to lead on day one. She has worked aggressively to keep our City government honest and transparent – implementing charter required competitive bidding on contracts and ensuring powerful special interests are kept out of the policy-making process.

She created the first Workers Rights Branch and the first Public Rights Branch in the City's history. Now, 42 dedicated staff members protect our environment, clean up problem properties, go after businesses that cheat consumers, and make sure workers get paid what they're owed. She also created the City’s Community Law Corp to combat chronic nuisances and blight, improving our local quality of life. Hydee has assigned dedicated staff to help tenants, assist the unhoused and solve neighborhood problems.

Hydee was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and moved to the United States at the age of 17 to attend Swarthmore College and Columbia University School of Law.  Following graduation from law school, she moved to Los Angeles, which she has proudly called home for nearly 40 years. Hydee raised her son in LA and today resides in Mid-City with her 93-year-old mother and 9-year-old rescue pup, Lucy.
